Many people have a love/hate relationship with the moles on their bodies, particularly the ones on their faces. Skin moles, those flat or raised dark spots on the skin, normally develop during the first 20 years of one's life, but faster with the help of the sun.
Most people have them, so they are very common. In addition, most are harmless. However, some can be cancerous. Indeed, suspicious moles should be looked at by a doctor or a dermatologist immediately, as they could be a sign of melanoma and in need of mole removal.
Moles have had an interesting history. For many years, they have been considered a sign of beauty. Famous celebrities with skin moles have been Elizabeth Taylor, Cindy Crawford and the late Marilyn Monroe, among others. Their well placed moles are considered very sexy.
But what about those that you don't find sexy? Many people have moles on their skin that they find unattractive, even though they are harmless and not cancerous. The desire for smooth skin, void of marks, is a common one, and skin moles that are large or raised, for example, can cause a lack of self esteem and even self hatred by those who have them.
Today, you don't have to live with moles on your skin. Mole removal can be safely accomplished with today's advanced laser treatments that are offered. Cosmetic surgery is criticized by some, and loved by others. It is truly a personal choice, but it's important to remember that most cosmetic surgery procedures are expensive, and in addition, are not covered by insurance. However, many cosmetic surgery centers offer payment plans.
There are two ways to accomplish mole removal - surgically or with the use of a laser technique. Once the moles are gone, there are many benefits, which include smoother looking skin, no bumps getting in the way of shaving or cutting, improved self esteem, and for those with moles that could potentially be cancerous, removing them takes away that health concern and that worry.
If you are interested in mole removal, your doctor will determine the correct procedures needed to successfully accomplish it. Laser may be appropriate. Surgery may be appropriate. Or, a combination of the two may be the most appropriate approach. Look for a competent plastic surgeon in your area by visiting the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
